While we were reading "Homer Price," the Beyond Five in a Row manual suggested a study of eggs, because one of the characters was wearing a dress that was "robin-egg blue." One of our homeschooling friends suggested a trip to the Audubon Society rescue center. I'm always up for a field trip- it's my favorite part of homeschooling (and I'm sure my kids would tell you the same thing!)... so we met some friends and spent a few hours touring the place, then Sam (the vet) came out and showed us some of the birds. 
I love field trips!
