This year, Disney moved their Homeschool Days to Animal Kingdom. The kids enjoyed the activities- from matching animals to their poop to using their sense of smell to detect what scent was in the pot. There was also an Animal Olympics to show how far a lion can leap, how fast a cheetah can run and how many times a humming bird flaps its wings. There were other activities, too- such as a Jeopardy/Tic Tac Toe game and a Conservation Shopping where the children could make good and better choices in "shopping" all the way down to the shopping bag (DS#1 was disappointed to learn that he didn't actually have to buy anything- he thought that meant I would have to buy him a souvenir!) We also learned how to survive as a white-cheeked gibbon. There was one other station we missed, as the line to get over to Rafiki's Planet Watch was pretty long.
I was disappointed, though, to discover that the regular free kids' stops at Animal Kingdom were much more educational and entertaining to the kids. We didn't hit all of these, as we will go back (we had to hit all the homeschool stops today), but we did visit a couple and even the kids enjoyed these more. But, when asked at the end of the day how they liked the event overall, all three kids gave all the exhibits they went to an EXCELLENT and they definitely came away knowing more about how to protect the environment and help animals survive in our changing climate.
